The Presidency has responded sharply to former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, after he claimed that Peter Obi, and not Bola Tinubu, won the 2023 presidential election.
In a recent interview on Channels TV, Babachir Lawal said he was no longer friends with President Tinubu because the president had become “too full of himself.”
He also stated that he would never accept any appointment from the current government because he doesn’t believe in them.
Reacting to this, Dare, the Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication to President Tinubu, described Babachir as a desperate political commentator looking for relevance.
According to Dare, Babachir’s comments during the interview were his most incoherent and desperate yet.
Dare said the interview showed a man struggling with personal frustrations, attacking the same president he once prayed for and supported passionately.
He added that Babachir’s sudden change in tone only proves that he is an opportunist and a “fair-weather friend” who seeks attention.
The statement urged Babachir to reflect on his actions and warned that his false claim about Peter Obi winning the election was a blatant lie. Dare insisted that Tinubu won the election legitimately, the courts have confirmed it, and he remains president until 2027.
Dare also questioned Babachir’s “psychoanalysis” of Tinubu, saying his bitterness might be because he was not chosen as vice president. He suggested that Tinubu instead picked a more qualified candidate.
The statement mocked Babachir’s description of Tinubu as a “so-called president,” calling it an insult to the dignity of the office he once served. Dare accused him of promoting ethnic politics, which threatens national unity.
Dare reminded Babachir that he was sacked during President Buhari’s administration, not Tinubu’s, and claimed his arrogance would have led to his dismissal under any president, including his preferred Peter Obi.
The statement also recalled Babachir’s 2017 reaction to his sack, where he reportedly said, “Who is the Presidency?” — showing the same arrogance he displays today.
Dare concluded by warning that Babachir’s TV appearances do not make him relevant but rather remind Nigerians why he was removed from office. He urged him to change his ways before it’s too late.
