Police in Osun State have taken eight people into custody over claims that they attacked a 16-year-old boy and removed his scrotum in Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area.
The state police spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, shared the news in a statement released on Monday in Osogbo.
Ojelabi explained that on July 26, around 4 pm, three men from Apomu went to work on a farm in the Arademi area of Ikire.
He said two of them tricked the teenager into following them to a hidden part of the bush, where they cut open his abdomen in an attempt to take some organs before removing his scrotum. The attackers ran off when the boy shouted for help.
Police officers quickly arrived at the scene, took the injured boy to a hospital for treatment, and later transferred him to the University College Hospital for further care.
Ojelabi added that investigations led to the arrest of eight people connected to the incident.
He also mentioned that in July, police made other arrests, including two suspected cult members at Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, and a man accused of robbing someone of an iPhone 11 in Oke Baale, Osogbo.
Another suspect was caught with a cut-to-size gun after being stopped on his motorcycle in Sedona, Ede, while one more was arrested for stealing a motorcycle from a mosque.
Ojelabi confirmed that all suspects would be charged in court after investigations are complete.
