A woman named Chinonye Amadi is asking for justice after her husband, Chibugo Amadi, died from a beating he received from his own relatives. The incident happened in Umuora village, Umuohiri community, in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State.
Two weeks earlier, it was reported that Chibugo had attacked his brother with a machete during a small argument. The brother was seriously injured and had to be rushed to a nearby hospital. Thankfully, the community helped get him treated, and he survived.
However, after the attack, some angry relatives of Chibugo took matters into their own hands. They reportedly caught him, stripped him naked, and beat him badly using sticks and wood. They even paraded him around the village while doing this.
Chibugo later collapsed and was taken to a hospital in Okwelle, in the Onuimo area. Sadly, doctors confirmed he was already dead when he arrived.
A journalist and human rights activist, Chidiebube Okeoma, shared this case online on Sunday, May 25. According to him, after the doctor confirmed Chibugo’s death, those responsible quickly dropped his body at a mortuary and ran away.
Okeoma said videos of the attack were recorded and shared on social media. He and his legal team, led by lawyer Chijioke Onwubuariri, are now helping the Amadi family seek justice. He mentioned that the attackers can be seen clearly in the video footage.
In another shocking part of the story, Chibugo’s 18-year-old son met the suspects at the hospital. They told him a lie—that his father had fallen from a tree.
A petition has already been submitted to the Commissioner of Police in Imo State, Aboki Danjuma. He has ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to look into the case seriously.
Mrs. Chinonye Amadi, along with three of her eight children, reached out to the activist’s foundation for help. They believe this was not just a beating—it was a planned murder.
Okeoma also claimed that the same people who beat Chibugo to death were trying to sell off his land cheaply. He said the murder even happened in front of his wife and children.
The suspects are now on the run, but Okeoma says they must be found and brought to justice. He praised their legal adviser for offering free legal help and called on kind-hearted Nigerians to support the family in their fight for justice.
