Easter: Enugu Anglican Bishop urges national renewal, laments rising insecurity, soaring fuel prices

The Anglican Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Samuel Ike, has called for national renewal as he expressed concern over rising insecurity in Nigeria. He delivered this message during his 2026 Easter address.

The cleric questioned the effectiveness of past government efforts to tackle insecurity. He also raised concerns about the continued suffering of Nigerians, worsened by the increase in fuel prices.

Bishop Ike urged citizens and leaders to embrace national repentance, stressing the need for a change in attitude. He referenced the country’s global security ranking to highlight the seriousness of the situation.

He further condemned the ongoing violence, including terrorism, kidnapping, and banditry. According to him, such acts contradict the message of love and sacrifice taught by Jesus Christ.

On the economy, the Bishop lamented the high cost of fuel and questioned the state of Nigeria’s refineries despite huge investments. He linked current challenges partly to global tensions but called for local solutions.

He concluded by encouraging Nigerians to embrace unity, compassion, and selfless leadership. He said the message of Easter offers hope that the nation can overcome its challenges through faith and collective effort.
