Tinubu Barracks Phase II Records Progress as Army Chief Inspects Construction

The construction of Bola Ahmed Tinubu Barracks Phase II has recorded significant progress, following an unscheduled inspection by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, to assess the pace and quality of work.

Shaibu conducted the inspection on Friday, October 16, 2026, to evaluate construction standards, compliance with approved specifications and progress towards the project’s completion.

The visit reflects the Army Chief’s commitment to accelerating infrastructure development and addressing accommodation challenges facing Nigerian Army personnel and their families, in line with his Soldier First philosophy and troop welfare agenda.

During the inspection, the COAS assessed residential accommodation blocks, internal road networks, water reticulation systems and other essential facilities designed to provide a comfortable and conducive living environment for military personnel.

He also received briefings from project engineers and consultants on the level of completion, challenges encountered during implementation and projected delivery timelines.

Expressing satisfaction with the progress made, Lieutenant General Shaibu urged the contractors to sustain the pace of work, adhere strictly to approved construction standards and ensure timely completion without compromising quality.

He emphasised that military infrastructure projects must deliver lasting value and adequately address the accommodation and welfare needs of personnel and their families.

The Army Chief noted that Bola Ahmed Tinubu Barracks, named in honour of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, represents a significant intervention in the Nigerian Army’s efforts to bridge accommodation gaps, improve living conditions and strengthen troop morale.

He reaffirmed that providing modern residential facilities and essential welfare infrastructure remains a key component of his vision to build a highly motivated, professional, resilient and combat-ready Nigerian Army capable of effectively discharging its constitutional responsibilities.

Shaibu further pledged to sustain the monitoring of infrastructure projects across Army formations and barracks, stressing that regular and unscheduled inspections would remain an integral part of efforts to ensure quality delivery, transparency, accountability and value for money.

The statement was signed by Colonel Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, and dated October 17, 2026.
