Ghana has announced plans to allow visa-free entry for all African passport holders. The new policy is set to begin on May 25, 2026, aligning with Africa Day celebrations.
The move was confirmed by the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs during a state visit by Emmerson Mnangagwa. It builds on a promise made by former President Nana Akufo-Addo.
With this decision, Ghana joins countries like Benin, The Gambia, Rwanda, and Seychelles in offering visa-free access to all African nationals.
The policy removes the need for visas before arrival, making travel easier across the continent. It is also expected to improve tourism, trade, and movement between African countries.
Officials say the plan will work alongside a new e-visa system designed to make entry smoother while maintaining border security. The initiative reflects Ghana’s commitment to unity and regional cooperation.
The government believes the policy will boost economic growth and strengthen ties across Africa. It also supports broader goals like the African Continental Free Trade Area, aimed at improving trade and integration.
