Eid-el-Fitr: Yobe govt suspends recreational activities

The Yobe State Government has ordered the temporary closure of recreational centres across the state during the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations. The decision is aimed at protecting lives and maintaining public safety.

The directive was announced by Dahiru Abdussalam, who serves as Special Adviser on Security Matters to the governor. He explained that large gatherings could pose risks due to the current security situation.

According to the government, festive periods often attract large crowds, especially young people, to recreational centres. This year, however, authorities believe such gatherings may create security concerns.

The suspension will take effect from March 19 to March 23, 2026. During this period, all operators of recreational facilities have been instructed to shut down their activities.

Security agencies and local government authorities have been directed to ensure strict compliance with the order. Officials across the 17 local government areas are expected to monitor and enforce the directive.

The government urged residents to cooperate with the decision and celebrate responsibly, emphasizing that the move is necessary to ensure a peaceful and safe Eid celebration in the state.
