The Nigerian government has reached a major milestone as an indigenous energy company secured N7.4 billion to deploy a 7-megawatt mini-grid in underserved communities of Ebonyi State. The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) confirmed the development.
The financing is part of a broader N100 billion Memorandum of Understanding with a Nigerian bank. The funds aim to deploy renewable energy across eight key sites in Ebonyi State.
The mini-grid project will benefit communities including Okposi, Mebiokpa, Ohaozara, and Ebunwana, improving access to reliable electricity for residents.
Additional areas covered include Unwana, Afikpo North, and Iboko in Izzi Local Government Area, ensuring widespread energy access across the state.
REA Managing Director Abba Aliyu highlighted that this project demonstrates how strategic partnerships can deliver immediate and tangible benefits to Nigerians.
The initiative is part of the government’s Access through Renewable Energy Scale-up (DARES) program, aiming to reduce Nigeria’s energy gap and promote sustainable development.
