Lagos Govt, NDLEA join forces to curb drug abuse in state-owned housing estates

The Lagos State Government has announced a new partnership with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to fight the growing menace of drug abuse and trafficking within state-owned housing estates. The collaboration aims to promote safer and more secure communities for residents across the state.

This was made known by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Housing, Mr. Abdulhafis Toriola, during a courtesy visit from the Lagos State Commander of NDLEA, Mr. Abubakar Liman Wali, at his office in Ikeja. In a statement signed by Mr. Ganiu Lawal, the Deputy Director of Public Affairs, Toriola praised the NDLEA for its persistent fight against drug-related crimes and its ongoing efforts in rehabilitation and public sensitisation.

Toriola assured that the Ministry of Housing is fully committed to supporting the NDLEA’s campaign against drug use in the state’s housing estates. He emphasized that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration is dedicated to building safe, clean, and healthy communities, free from criminal activities linked to drugs. “We will continue to partner with relevant agencies to maintain a drug-free Lagos,” he stated.

In his response, NDLEA Commander Abubakar Liman Wali commended the Ministry’s readiness to work with the agency. He stressed that the NDLEA will keep promoting discipline, patriotism, and public participation in the campaign against drug abuse. He further noted that cooperation between government bodies and communities is key to addressing the problem effectively.

Wali also reaffirmed the NDLEA’s commitment to strengthen preventive actions, expand awareness programs, and ensure that individuals involved in drug-related crimes face appropriate legal consequences. The partnership between Lagos State and NDLEA represents another step toward achieving a drug-free and crime-free environment for all residents.
