The Nigerian Army has arrested one of its soldiers over alleged involvement in selling weapons, even as troops successfully rescued eight kidnapped victims and seized arms in recent operations across the country.
A reliable source from Army Headquarters shared this information with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday, September 1, 2025, in Abuja.
The soldier, identified as Lance Corporal Saifullahi Garba (14NA/72/15972), was caught in Marte Local Government Area of Borno State with 711 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition in his possession.
Initial investigations revealed that Garba had been secretly keeping the ammunition from past clearance missions with plans to supply them to terrorists.
According to the source, the suspect has been handed over to the proper authorities for further investigation and necessary action.
The source also revealed that troops in Bama stopped terrorists’ supply movement and recovered 379 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.
Troops also carried out ambush operations in Borno and Yobe, where they recovered two AK-47 rifles, 11 rounds of ammunition, and other items, while one terrorist was killed.
In the North-Central region, soldiers rescued three kidnap victims in Nasarawa, adding to the earlier five people who had already been freed.
Troops under Operation Whirl Stroke also retrieved 579 stolen cattle and two AK-47 rifles from armed herdsmen linked to past attacks in Taraba State.
In the South-South region, Operation Delta Safe troops arrested 10 armed suspects in Rivers State who were disguising themselves in OSPAC uniforms.
The soldiers seized five pump-action guns, local weapons, charms, mobile phones, and N1.7 million in cash. In a separate operation in Ahoada East, two cult leaders were killed.
“These operations show the army’s strong determination to stop terrorists and criminals from operating freely, while also proving its readiness to punish any betrayal within its ranks,” the source concluded.
