Reverse Telecom Tariff Or Face Protest, Students Warn FG

University students in South-West Nigeria have urged the Federal Government to reverse the recent increase in telecommunication tariffs. They warned that if the government and other stakeholders fail to act, they will mobilize students for protests.

At a press conference in Lagos, the National Association of University Students (NAUS), South-West zone, outlined their concerns. According to NAUS National Vice President (South-West), Tiamiyu Olayinka, the hike in telecom tariffs negatively impacts students. Many depend on affordable internet to attend online classes, conduct research, and submit assignments.

The students also called on the government to address other urgent issues, including insecurity on campuses, unstable electricity supply, and frequent strikes affecting academic activities.

“If our demands are not met, we will have no choice but to organize students across the South-West and take action to defend our rights,” NAUS stated.

Students are urging the government to take immediate steps to resolve these challenges and create a better learning environment.
