The Senate has paused all actions on the controversial tax reform bills.
The Senate’s Finance Committee has been instructed to stop working on the bill until after a high-level meeting with the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF).
Deputy Senate President Senator Barau Jibrin announced during today’s session that a special committee has been set up to discuss the disputed parts of the bill. The meeting is planned for tomorrow, Thursday, December 5.
This decision comes after several debates among lawmakers aimed at addressing disagreements on key parts of the proposed bill. The contentious sections have caused heated discussions among stakeholders over the past few days.
Additionally, the Senate plans to hold a special meeting at the National Assembly, chaired by the Minority Leader, to resolve all points of disagreement. This meeting will help lawmakers align their views and make sure the bill meets national goals while addressing concerns from stakeholders.
