Nigerian govt declares March 19, 20 public holiday for Eid-al-Fitr celebration

The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared March 19 and 20, 2026, as public holidays to celebrate Eid al-Fitr. The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through the ministry’s leadership.

The government congratulated Muslims across the country for successfully completing the Ramadan fast. It also encouraged them to continue practicing values such as love, peace, tolerance, and generosity.

Citizens were urged to use the festive period as a time to pray for unity and progress in Nigeria. The Minister highlighted the importance of togetherness and national harmony during celebrations.

He also advised Nigerians to celebrate responsibly and remember those in need by showing kindness and support. The holidays are expected to give families time to rest and mark the occasion peacefully.
