NAFDAC raises alarm over fake cancer drug circulating in Nigeria

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has raised an alarm over a fake cancer drug found in circulation across Nigeria. The counterfeit product, identified as Phesgo 600mg, was discovered after complaints from Lagos University Teaching Hospital.

According to reports, suspicious batches showed unusual differences, including incorrect vial sizes and packaging errors. The original manufacturer, Roche, confirmed that some batch numbers do not exist in its records, indicating that the products are falsified.

Further checks revealed that the fake drug has appeared in multiple countries, raising serious concerns about public health. Experts warn that counterfeit medicines may not meet safety standards and could be harmful to patients relying on them for treatment.

NAFDAC has now directed authorities nationwide to increase monitoring and remove the fake products from circulation. The agency also advised healthcare providers and the public to buy medicines only from trusted sources and report any suspicious drugs immediately.
