Sixteen passengers were rescued after gunmen abducted them from a commercial bus on the Benin to Iyere Agbanikaka Oluku Road in Edo State on Friday, September 5.
The Edo State Police confirmed the rescue. Police spokesperson CSP Moses Joel Yamu provided updates on the situation.
A video showing other commuters on the road shortly after the attack surfaced on social media, highlighting the fear and chaos during the incident. Reports say the abduction took place around 4:30 pm.
On his X (formerly Twitter) account, CSP Yamu stated:
“Sixteen of the victims have been rescued so far, as search and rescue operations by @EdoPoliceNG continue.”
The police are still conducting searches to ensure the safety of other commuters and prevent further attacks along the route.
