‘They paved way for me’ – Asisat Oshoala singles out three ex-Super Falcons players

Bay FC and Super Falcons striker, Asisat Oshoala, has shown gratitude to three former players who she believes helped shape her journey in Nigerian women’s football.

Speaking during a recent interview on Arise News, Oshoala mentioned Perpetua Nkwocha, Precious Dede, and Rita Chikwelu as women who opened doors for the next generation of Super Falcons players.

She pointed out that legends like Nkwocha set high standards, especially in goal scoring, making it easier for players like her to gain recognition and respect in the team.

“These are the people that actually paved the way for someone like me to be able to come into the Super Falcons and enjoy certain things,” she said.

Oshoala went on to praise former goalkeeper Precious Dede and midfielder Rita Chikwelu, noting that she had the privilege of playing with some of them before they retired.

The 30-year-old football star has had an impressive career, playing for top European clubs including Liverpool, Arsenal, and Barcelona. She currently plays for Bay FC in the United States and has won the CAF Women’s Player of the Year award six times.

Oshoala’s tribute is a reminder of the lasting impact past players have had on the development of women’s football in Nigeria.
