NDLEA arrests major illicit drug lord on watchlist in Bayelsa

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Bayelsa State has arrested a suspected major drug dealer in Yenagoa. The agency said the suspect was involved in the distribution of illegal drugs in the area.

The suspect, Chimezie Collins, also known as Mezico, is the owner of MEZICO Pharmacy located along Mbiam-Yenagoa Road in Kpansia. He was caught with a large quantity of banned and controlled drugs during the operation.

Officials said they recovered over 1,000 tablets of different hard drugs, including tramadol (200mg and 100mg), Rohypnol, diazepam, and Molly. In total, about 1,900 tablets and capsules were seized from him.

In addition, officers found 150 bottles of diazepam and pentazocine injections, as well as 77 bottles of codeine. The total weight of the drugs was over 12 kilograms, with an estimated street value of about ₦3 million.

The NDLEA spokesperson in Bayelsa, Daniel Obah, confirmed the arrest on April 2, 2026. He explained that the suspect had been on the agency’s watchlist for nearly two years due to his involvement in illegal drug activities.

The State Commander, Kanu Sunny Chukwuemeka, praised the officers for their professionalism and dedication in tracking and arresting the suspect successfully.

He also appreciated the leadership of NDLEA Chairman, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa, for strengthening the agency’s intelligence-based approach to fighting drug crimes.

Kanu further thanked Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, for supporting the agency’s efforts to reduce drug supply and abuse in the state.

Finally, the NDLEA warned drug dealers and traffickers to stop their illegal activities or be ready to face strict legal consequences.
