Residents and commuters in Taraba State have been left stranded after heavy rainfall caused the Namnai Bridge in Gassol Local Government Area to become submerged. The incident occurred after only the second rainfall of the year, cutting off movement completely and disrupting daily activities. Many travelers were forced to halt their journeys as vehicles could no longer pass through the flooded route.

The situation has once again exposed the fragile condition of the bridge, which had previously undergone temporary repairs. Community members had earlier warned that the structure was weak and might not withstand heavy rains. Their concerns appear to have come true, as the bridge failed sooner than expected.

Local residents expressed frustration over the recurring problem, saying the flooding has made life difficult for people who rely on the route for business and transportation. With access blocked, economic activities in the area have been significantly affected, leaving many stranded on both sides of the bridge.

Some drivers criticized the authorities for what they described as a lack of urgency in addressing the issue. They claimed that since the bridge was first washed away in 2024, no lasting solution has been provided. Instead, temporary fixes have continued to fail, causing repeated hardship for road users.

A driver, who identified himself as Amadin Sule, accused officials of neglecting the needs of the people. He noted that despite promises made by government representatives to rebuild the bridge, there has been little visible progress. According to him, the continued delay shows a lack of commitment to solving the problem.

As the rainy season intensifies, fears are growing that conditions may worsen if urgent action is not taken. Residents are calling on the government to provide a permanent solution to the bridge problem, warning that continued neglect could further disrupt lives and economic activities in the region.
