U.S. President Donald Trump has urged leaders from Latin America to take stronger military action against powerful drug cartels. Speaking during the “Shield of the Americas” summit in Florida, Trump described the cartels as a “cancer” that must be eliminated.
Trump also offered to support allied countries with U.S. missile strikes if they identify cartel leaders or bases. He said American weapons are highly accurate and could be used to destroy criminal groups threatening regional security.
The meeting brought together several leaders from Latin America and the Caribbean, including Javier Milei, Daniel Noboa, and Nayib Bukele. The summit launched a coalition of countries that pledged to use stronger security measures against drug trafficking networks.
Experts say the new alliance shows a shift toward tougher action against organized crime in the region. However, some analysts warn that the plan could raise concerns about military intervention and regional stability.
