How bad economy is affecting streaming revenues in Nigeria – Sarz

Nigerian music producer, Sarz, has highlighted why streaming revenues in Nigeria are far lower than in Western countries. He explained that one million streams on Spotify in the U.S. earn $3,000–$5,000, while the same streams in Nigeria earn only $300–$500, despite similar marketing costs.

Sarz attributed the disparity to economic factors, noting that many Nigerians cannot afford premium streaming subscriptions. He stressed that while Nigerians love music, the country’s economy limits the value of domestic streams compared to Western markets.

On solutions, Sarz said Nigerian artists and executives are waiting for economic improvements to boost streaming revenue. He praised local creators for achieving success despite limited resources and financial challenges in the industry.

He emphasized the role of government in empowering citizens to access music platforms, stating that improving the economy would allow more people to afford streaming, ultimately benefiting artists and the entire entertainment ecosystem.
