A legal expert has stated that a breach of agreement alone cannot be used as a ground to impeach a governor in Rivers State. The lawyer explained that impeachment requires clear legal violations or misconduct, not simply disagreements or broken political deals.
The expert noted that Rivers State law, as well as Nigeria’s constitution, sets strict conditions for impeachment. These include proven abuse of office, corruption, or actions that endanger public interest, rather than ordinary political disputes.
According to the lawyer, political tensions and disagreements should be resolved through dialogue and negotiation rather than resorting to impeachment threats. He emphasised that proper legal procedures must be followed to maintain stability in the state.
Finally, the legal practitioner urged politicians and stakeholders to respect the rule of law and seek peaceful resolution of conflicts. He warned that misinterpreting political disagreements as impeachable offenses could create unnecessary crisis and instability in Rivers State.
