EPL: He’s very honest – Scholes reveals Amorim’s ‘wrong comments’ after Man Utd sack

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has said that Ruben Amorim’s honesty may have played a role in his dismissal as Manchester United manager. Scholes described Amorim as “very honest” but suggested that some of the comments he made after matches and during interviews may not have gone down well with the club’s hierarchy.

Speaking on British television, Scholes explained that while honesty is a good personal quality, it can sometimes be risky in a big club like Manchester United where public statements are closely watched. He said Amorim’s open criticism of performances and internal issues may have created pressure behind the scenes.

Scholes added that top clubs often expect managers to protect the club’s image, even during difficult periods. According to him, some of Amorim’s remarks were “not wrong” but may have been “too direct,” especially at a time when the club was already under intense media and fan scrutiny.

Despite this, Scholes praised Amorim’s character and coaching ability, saying the Portuguese manager has a bright future ahead. He said Amorim’s honesty should not be seen as a weakness, but as a trait that simply did not fit well with the current environment at Manchester United.
