Congo’s president, Nguesso emerges winner with over 94% votes in provisional results

Incumbent President Denis Sassou Nguesso of the Republic of Congo has secured a landslide victory in the March 15, 2026, presidential election, according to provisional results. He reportedly won 94.82% of votes nationwide, with turnout at 84.65% of registered voters.

The Ministry of Interior confirmed that 2,644,013 votes were valid, with 37,574 ballots invalid. International observers, including a mission led by former Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo, described the election as peaceful, calm, and transparent.

Nguesso dominated across all departments, scoring above 80% in most areas and above 95% in regions like Likouala, Cuvette, and Plateaux. Opposition candidates collectively obtained only 5.2% of votes, with the highest individual share at 1.48%.

Despite minor issues such as delayed voting and an internet blackout, the election outcome reflects political support for Nguesso. The Constitutional Court will formally confirm the results before he begins his final constitutional term.
