Amnesty International decries alleged killing of nine women by military in Adamawa protest

Amnesty International has strongly criticised the alleged killing of nine women during a protest in Adamawa State, reportedly involving members of the Nigerian military. The rights group described the incident as disturbing and called for an immediate and transparent investigation into what happened.

According to Amnesty International, the women were part of a peaceful protest when security forces allegedly opened fire. The organisation said the use of force against unarmed civilians, especially women, is unacceptable and may amount to serious human rights violations if confirmed.

The group urged Nigerian authorities to ensure accountability by identifying those responsible and bringing them to justice. Amnesty also called on the military to respect international rules on crowd control and the protection of civilians during internal security operations.

Amnesty International further appealed to the federal and Adamawa State governments to provide justice for the victims and support for their families. It stressed that respecting human rights is key to building trust between security agencies and local communities.
