US hits terrorism financiers in new sanction

The United States has announced new sanctions targeting individuals and companies accused of secretly moving millions of dollars from Iran to Hezbollah. According to Washington, these operatives used business networks to hide financial transactions and support activities linked to terrorism. The U.S. government stressed that these actions are part of efforts to stop Iran from financing Hezbollah’s operations, which it says threaten stability in Lebanon and the region.

In a statement, the U.S. State Department said it remains committed to helping Lebanon protect its sovereignty and economy. Officials accused Iran of undermining Lebanon’s progress by empowering Hezbollah and keeping the country “in captivity.” The sanctions are also aligned with President Donald Trump’s “maximum pressure” strategy against Iran and its regional allies, aimed at disrupting networks that fund militant groups.

Beyond the Middle East, the U.S. also imposed sanctions on individuals and entities tied to North Korea’s illegal financial schemes. Washington identified organizations and people involved in laundering money, cybercrime, and operating IT workers abroad to generate funds for the North Korean government. These funds, according to U.S. authorities, have been used to support banned nuclear and missile programs.

Among the sanctioned are North Korean workers and bank officials accused of managing stolen funds and helping the country evade United Nations sanctions. The U.S. highlighted banks like Ryujong Credit Bank and tech firms like Korea Mangyongdae Computer Technology Company as key players in these secret operations. Several individuals linked to the scheme were named for processing illegal transactions and assisting the government in hiding its activities.

The U.S. emphasized that North Korea’s online crimes and funding network pose a threat to global security and the international financial system. By targeting both Iran-backed and North Korea-linked networks, Washington says it is strengthening global efforts to block the flow of money to terrorist groups and nuclear weapons programs. The actions signal a continued aggressive policy against nations considered threats to peace and stability.
