Actor Williams Uchemba calls for public execution of kidnappers to curb rising insecurity

Popular Nollywood actor Williams Uchemba has called on the Nigerian government to adopt public execution for convicted kidnappers as a way to curb the growing wave of abductions across the country. The actor believes that harsh and visible punishment would serve as a strong deterrent to others engaging in criminal activities.

In a passionate video shared on his Instagram page, Uchemba expressed deep concern over the rising level of insecurity and the government’s alleged failure to enforce existing laws on capital punishment. He argued that the lack of strict consequences has encouraged criminals to act with impunity, knowing they may never face real justice.

Citing China as an example, Uchemba noted that the Asian nation enforces the death penalty for serious crimes such as kidnapping and corruption, a policy he credited for China’s relatively low crime rate. He added that Nigeria could reduce criminal activity if similar measures were implemented.

“The capital punishment for kidnapping is death, yet when offenders are arrested, we rarely hear what happens afterwards,” Uchemba said. “If you ask me, there should be a dedicated TV channel showing the arrest and public execution of convicted kidnappers. Until real consequences are enforced, nothing will change.”

His comments come amid a sharp rise in kidnapping incidents across Nigeria, especially as the festive season approaches — a period often marked by an increase in criminal activities. Uchemba urged the government to act decisively, stating that visible justice would help restore public trust in the system and reduce insecurity nationwide.
