Dangote Refutes Claims Of Mass Sackings, Blames PENGASSAN For Crisis

The Dangote Group has denied widespread reports suggesting that the company carried out mass sackings at its refinery and other facilities. In a statement, the management clarified that no mass retrenchment has taken place, stressing that the reports were exaggerated and misleading. The company assured that it remains committed to creating jobs and sustaining the Nigerian economy through its industrial operations.

Dangote, however, pointed fingers at the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), accusing the union of being behind the current industrial unrest. According to the company, PENGASSAN’s actions have disrupted operations and created unnecessary tension, further fueling the false narrative of mass layoffs. The company urged the union to embrace dialogue rather than confrontation.

Industry watchers say the development underscores the need for stronger labor–employer relations in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector. While Dangote insists that its workforce remains intact, stakeholders believe only open communication between management and unions can prevent further crises that may affect the refinery’s stability and broader economic impact.
