Former Manchester City star Kiki Musampa arrested for tax fraud

Former Manchester City midfielder Kiki Musampa has been taken into custody in the Netherlands for allegedly committing tax fraud worth £100,000.

Musampa, 48, played 41 matches for City during an 18-month loan from Atlético Madrid between 2005 and 2006. Dutch authorities detained him on Tuesday.

Investigators from the Fiscal Information and Investigation Service (FIOD) claim he falsely declared himself as living abroad while continuing to earn money in the Netherlands.

Police reportedly searched his home and confiscated important documents and luxury watches. His 65-year-old accountant was also arrested in connection with the case.

Musampa was released from custody on Wednesday afternoon, but the investigation is still ongoing.

The former Ajax winger, nicknamed “Chris,” had a successful football career. He won the Champions League and two Dutch league titles with Ajax before playing in France, Spain, England, Turkey, South Korea, and returning to the Netherlands to finish his career at Willem II in 2009.

He also played 43 times for the Netherlands youth teams.

After retiring, Musampa started a coaching career. He is now the assistant manager of Jong Ajax, Ajax’s reserve squad.

Reports in the Netherlands indicate he has had long-standing tax issues, including having a property in Amsterdam recently seized.

In response to the arrest, Ajax said: “We are aware of Kiki Musampa’s arrest, but we think it is too early to react to it in detail.”
