ASABA 2025: 10 year old to represent Yobe in Chess at NYG

A 10-year-old chess star from Yobe State, Mohammed Mubarak, is set to make history as the youngest competitor at the 2025 National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State.

Mubarak shared his excitement before leaving for Asaba. He started playing chess at the age of 7 and has been actively participating in Yobe’s state and zonal elimination tournaments.

His coach, Chuxphoenix, praised his talent and dedication, saying he has been making progress in the sporting scene for a while now.

“With his love for chess and determination, Mubarak is ready to shine at the 2025 National Youth Games,” said Chuxphoenix.

This will be Mohammed Mubarak’s first time competing at the national level, and he is eager to show his skills against other young athletes from across Nigeria.

The 9th National Youth Games will take place in Asaba, Delta State, from August 29 to September 6, 2025. Athletes from all 36 states and the FCT will take part in more than 37 sports, including football, basketball, athletics, and more. The event aims to encourage teamwork, discipline, and unity among young Nigerians.
