Lionel Messi might be planning a temporary move to another football club so he can stay in top shape for the 2026 World Cup. He wants to help Argentina win the trophy again.
The famous Argentine star has been playing for Inter Miami in the United States for the past two years.
Now, according to ESPN Argentina, Messi may join a stronger league on loan next season. This would help him prepare better for the World Cup, which will take place in the US, Mexico, and Canada.
His contract with Inter Miami is set to end later this year. The club would like him to stay longer, but Messi is thinking about leaving the MLS for a tougher league to boost his performance before the tournament.
Reports also say that contract talks between Messi and Inter Miami are currently not active. This means he could still leave if he wants.
Many people link Messi with Barcelona, the club where he spent most of his career and became a football legend. However, going back there doesn’t seem likely because of money problems at the club and his not-so-good relationship with the president, Joan Laporta.
Messi led Argentina to World Cup victory in 2022 in Qatar. As a result, he will enter the 2026 World Cup as a champion, hoping to help his country win again.
