Simon Ekpa, who describes himself as the prime minister of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has filed a lawsuit against his former associate, Ngozi Orabueze. The case was filed in a U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C.
Ekpa is asking the court to make Orabueze pay him damages. He wants financial punishment, repayment of legal fees, and coverage of other court costs.
The case is based on claims that Orabueze created a rival version of the Biafra Republic Government in Exile (BRGIE) and took over the group’s membership database without permission.
The lawsuit was filed by a U.S.-based lawyer, Arman Dabiri. Orabueze is listed as the main defendant in the court documents.
Other people were also named in the lawsuit. These include Ada Ezeh, Diana Emeh Solomon Nkwocha, Ugbonna Christian Olejemah, Uchenna Objijiaku, and Ijeoma Eze, among others.
According to the court filing, Dabiri is representing the BRGIE and its leader, Ekpa. Ekpa is currently facing trial in Finland for charges related to terrorism.
The lawsuit claims that Orabueze tried to take control of BRGIE by setting up a new group. It also accuses her of stealing the group’s data and resources and committing fraud.
Court records say that the issue began in December 2024.
Meanwhile, DAILY POST reports that Ekpa is still in pre-trial detention in Finland. He is being held for allegedly encouraging people to commit crimes with terrorist intent.
