Arsenal’s Champions League dream ended on Wednesday night after a 2-1 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-final second leg. Manager Mikel Arteta shared that his team wasn’t sharp enough in key moments.
The Gunners went into the game behind 1-0 from the first leg of the tie played in London. They needed a win in Paris to reach the final.
Arsenal started the match strong and controlled the early minutes. However, they couldn’t convert their chances into goals. PSG made them pay when Fabio Ruiz opened the scoring.
After halftime, Achraf Hakimi added a second goal for PSG, making it very hard for Arsenal to come back.
Bukayo Saka pulled one goal back for the visitors, but it wasn’t enough to change the outcome.
Speaking to TNT Sports after the game, Arteta said, “Honestly, I haven’t seen a better team than us in this tournament, but we are still out.”
He explained that the Champions League is all about making the most of chances in both penalty areas. Arteta admitted that PSG had better strikers and goalkeepers over the two games.
Despite the result, Arteta praised his players. He said they deserved credit for their effort, especially given the tough situation with injuries in the squad.
Arteta added that coming into the match with so many setbacks and still performing well shows promise for the future. But for now, he’s disappointed with the outcome.
