Manchester United have officially started working on a deal to sign Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen. According to reports, the club recently met with Osimhen’s representatives. This is the first clear sign that United are serious about bringing him to Old Trafford in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Foot Mercato reported that a meeting between Manchester United and Osimhen’s team happened recently, marking the beginning of formal talks. While it’s still early, it shows that the club is moving forward in their search for a new top striker.
Victor Osimhen, who is currently on loan at Galatasaray, has had an incredible season. He has scored 33 goals and assisted 8 more in just 37 games across all competitions. These numbers show why several top clubs are now interested in signing him.
As the summer transfer window approaches, Osimhen has two main options—a move to the Premier League or a switch to Saudi Arabia. Clubs from both regions are keeping a close watch on his situation.
Last summer, Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal offered €50 million for Osimhen, but he turned them down and joined Galatasaray instead. Despite that, Saudi clubs haven’t lost interest. In fact, a new Saudi team backed by the Neom project is now monitoring him closely.
However, Osimhen reportedly prefers a move to the Premier League. One big reason is money—he’s asking for a yearly salary of €12 million, and not many clubs outside England can afford that.
According to Foot Mercato, English clubs are the only ones likely to meet his high salary demands, making the Premier League his most realistic destination.
Among the English clubs, Manchester United are leading the race. The club is not satisfied with their current attacking options and is looking to sign a new number nine. Osimhen is one of four names on their list.
Other players being considered by United include Victor Gyökeres and Liam Delap, but Osimhen is high on their radar. If Manchester United qualify for the Champions League through the Europa League, their chances of signing a top striker will improve.
Still, it won’t be easy. Napoli, Osimhen’s parent club, want more than €75 million, including bonuses, to let him leave. Any club that wants him must be ready to pay a big transfer fee.
