Canada not for sale – New Canadian PM Carney warns Trump during White House meeting

Canada’s new Prime Minister, Mark Carney, made it clear to former U.S. President Donald Trump that his country is not up for grabs.
During a serious meeting at the White House on Tuesday, May 6, Carney firmly told Trump that Canada is “not for sale.”

Even though there were disagreements, the meeting stayed polite.
Trump again suggested that Canada could become the 51st state of the U.S.—an idea he has mentioned before. Despite the tension, both leaders kept things respectful.

Trump tried to keep the door open for talks about a union.
He said, “It takes two to tango,” meaning he’s willing to talk if Canada ever shows interest. He described the idea as a “wonderful marriage.”

Carney didn’t hold back in rejecting Trump’s idea.
He quickly replied that “some places are never for sale,” and compared Canada’s value to landmarks like the White House or Buckingham Palace—something priceless.

Trump complimented Canada’s stronger military support but didn’t completely drop his plan.
Although he praised Canada’s efforts, he ended the talk by saying, “Never say never,” showing he might bring it up again in the future.
