The Nigerian Navy has arrested 27 people, including three women, during a raid on a known drug spot in Apapa, Lagos. The raid took place on April 5 at Gidan Drama, along Malu Road, after the Navy received reliable information about illegal drug activities in the area.
According to Lieutenant Hussaini Ibrahim, the Base Information Officer, the suspects include young men and women aged between 18 and 45. The operation was carried out by officers from the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT.
The Navy said this action shows its strong commitment to fighting drug abuse and drug trafficking, especially among young people. Commodore Paul Ponfa Nimmyel, the commander of NNS BEECROFT, was represented by Captain Idongesit Udoessien during the handover of the suspects and drugs to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation.
Lieutenant Ibrahim noted that the Navy will continue to support national efforts to stop the spread of illegal drugs and protect the health and safety of Nigerians. The successful arrest is part of the Navy’s wider plan to improve internal security and help in the fight against drugs across the country.
