A terrible fire broke out at the popular GSM Market in Kano on the day of Eid-Kabir, burning down more than 300 shops and leaving many traders in shock. The incident brought sadness to what was supposed to be a joyful celebration.
The fire started around 2:00 pm at the Farm Center GSM Market, located in Tarauni Local Government Area of Kano State. It began inside a building known as Dan Sileka within the market and quickly spread, damaging many shops.
Most of the goods lost in the fire were mobile phones and accessories. These items are the main products sold in the market, and the loss is estimated to be in millions of naira.
Thankfully, the Kano State Fire Service arrived on time. Their quick action helped stop the fire from spreading to other parts of the market. Many traders were thankful for their brave efforts.
Shortly after the fire began, the Executive Chairman of Tarauni Local Government, Ahmed Sekure, came to the market to check the situation. He met with traders, looked at the damage, and offered words of comfort.
Chairman Sekure also spoke about the need for better safety steps in the market. He said it’s important to take action to stop such incidents from happening again.
He offered prayers for all those affected, asking Almighty Allah to give them strength and to bless them with even better things in the future.
Market leaders, including Ambassador Jamilu Bala Gama, who heads the GSM Traders Association, and Abdula’ziz Usman Mai Tabarma, the Market Managing Director, both appreciated Sekure’s visit. They said it meant a lot that he showed care while the fire was still burning.
They also said they are working to find out what caused the fire and thanked the firefighters for their quick and brave response. Lastly, they prayed for God’s protection and hoped that such a tragedy never happens again.
