Two people have been killed by gunmen suspected to be herdsmen in Benue State. The killings happened on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, along two major roads in Gwer West Local Government Area.
Eyewitnesses said one of the victims was killed at Atukpu village, just one kilometre from Naka town, the local government headquarters. This happened along the Taraku-Naka Road. The second victim was killed on the same day along the Naka-Adoka Road.
People living in the area say all the main roads leading to Naka have become very dangerous due to regular attacks by armed men.
The Chairman of Gwer West, Victor Ormin, confirmed the killings. He said a young man was killed while coming back from getting materials to roof his house. Another person was also killed on the same day on a nearby road.
“These attacks are now happening almost every day,” Ormin said. “The Makurdi-Naka Road is already unsafe, and now the other roads are also not safe. Even Naka town is under threat. These killings are happening very close to the town.”
Ormin also said that the security officers in the area may not be able to handle the situation, even though Governor Hyacinth Alia is trying to stop the violence.
