The Federal Government of Nigeria is getting ready to release the 2025 Annual Flood Outlook (AFO) this Thursday. This report will show the areas that are most likely to experience flooding as the rainy season starts.
The announcement came from Umar Ibrahim Mohammed, the Director General of the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA), in Abuja. He said that the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof. Joseph Utsev, will officially present the forecast.
The AFO will provide information about likely flood patterns and locations that may be at serious risk. The aim is to help government agencies, local leaders, and communities prepare early to reduce the damage floods can cause.
Mohammed also said the AFO is an important tool that helps people make good decisions and take action before floods happen. The theme for this year is: “Flood Resilience: Focusing on Communities’ Preparedness and Adaptive Strategies for Flood Management.”
