The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, will now have his case handled by a new judge. The Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Tsoho, made this decision.
This update was shared by Kanu’s lead lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, in a statement on Saturday. He confirmed that Kanu is ready to stand trial because he strongly believes in his innocence.
Ejimakor explained that his legal team received two important letters before visiting Kanu in detention. One letter was from the Chief Justice of Nigeria, responding to their request for a fair reassignment of the case.
The second letter, from the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, confirmed that a new judge has been assigned.
Kanu has expressed gratitude to the Chief Justice of Nigeria for handling the matter promptly. He also thanked the public for supporting the demand for a fair reassignment.
Kanu’s lawyer noted that for the past six months, since the previous judge stepped down, the case faced delays, which affected Kanu’s right to a fair and speedy trial. Because of this, his legal team pushed for quick action.
Now that the authorities have reassigned the case, Kanu’s team will focus on preparing his defense. They are determined to ensure the trial follows legal procedures and guarantees justice.
