Ukraine captures 909 Russian troops over Kursk operation

On February 6, Ukraine announced it had captured 909 Russian soldiers during a military operation in Russia’s western Kursk region.

This operation, which began in August, was aimed at boosting Ukraine’s efforts to bring home its own prisoners of war.

The Ukrainian military shared that the captured Russian soldiers will help increase the number of prisoners available for exchange, allowing Ukraine to bring back hundreds of its own soldiers who had been imprisoned by Russia.

Ukraine has been focused on returning its captured troops, and these efforts have led to significant progress in the past year.

This recent operation follows a similar one last year, when Ukraine captured over 700 Russian soldiers in the Kursk region.

The increase in captured soldiers marks an important shift in Ukraine’s ability to negotiate for the release of its own troops.

The operation, which saw Ukrainian forces push into Russian territory in August, is the largest foreign army operation on Russian soil since World War II.

While Ukraine made gains early on, they have since lost some of the ground they initially captured.

Ukraine continues to hold onto its position in Kursk, seeing it as an important tool for future peace talks. At the same time, Russian forces are advancing along the front lines in eastern Ukraine.
