Suspended Catholic Priest did wedding publicly, requested resignation earlier – Fr Kelvin Ugwu

There has been a lot of talk recently about Fr. Daniel Oghenerukevwe, a Catholic priest from the Catholic Diocese of Warri, who was suspended after rumors about him secretly getting married in the United States. However, Fr. Kelvin Ugwu, a Catholic missionary priest working in Gambia, has come forward to set the record straight.

Fr. Kelvin shared a post on his Facebook page, explaining that the wedding was not secret but was done publicly. He also clarified that Fr. Oghenerukevwe had already asked to leave the priesthood before deciding to get married. According to Fr. Kelvin, Fr. Oghenerukevwe had shown his intention to resign from his priestly duties and had started the process for that.

In his post, Fr. Kelvin said, “Fr. Oghenerukevwe did not secretly get married; it was publicly done.” He also pointed out that the real issue was that Fr. Oghenerukevwe did not wait for the official process to be finished before getting married to his partner, Dora Chichah.

Fr. Kelvin added that no one is forced to stay a priest, and if a priest wants to leave, there are steps to follow to be laicized. He emphasized that the priesthood is a choice and should be respected when someone decides to move on.

This clarification helps clear up some of the confusion surrounding Fr. Oghenerukevwe’s suspension and the details of his marriage.
