Stop anti-democratic forces from foisting one party state on Nigeria – Adeyanju to Tinubu

Human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju has called on Bola Ahmed Tinubu to act against what he described as rising anti-democratic tendencies in the country. He warned that such actions could weaken Nigeria’s political system.

Adeyanju urged the president to stop any moves aimed at turning Nigeria into a one-party state. He alleged that some individuals within the government may be working to frustrate opposition parties ahead of the 2027 elections.

He expressed concern over reported efforts to weaken parties like the Peoples Democratic Party and the African Democratic Congress. According to him, this trend could harm democratic competition.

The activist also cautioned that advisers who see opposition as a threat to re-election may be misleading the president. He insisted that a strong opposition is vital for a healthy democracy.

Adeyanju further called on former presidents and national leaders to speak out. He said their voices are important in defending democratic values and protecting political balance.

He concluded by stressing that Nigeria’s democracy must be preserved. According to him, all stakeholders must work together to ensure fairness, transparency, and political freedom.
