Dele Farotimi, the human rights activist and legal practitioner, has firmly denied sending Peter Obi to beg Afe Babalola in connection with the ongoing defamation case. This clarification came from Tope Temokun, one of Farotimi’s lawyers, who visited him in prison.
In early December, Farotimi was arrested and taken to Ekiti State for prosecution after he published a book alleging that Afe Babalola was involved in corrupting the judiciary. The book claims that Babalola influenced a revised judgment in the Supreme Court. Farotimi faces charges in Ekiti, Abuja, and Oyo states.
Amidst the legal drama, there were rumors about Peter Obi’s visit to both Farotimi and Babalola, sparking confusion among the public. Some speculated that Obi’s visit was part of an effort to settle the matter outside court. However, Temokun clarified that during his prison visit, Farotimi categorically denied sending Obi to beg Babalola. Farotimi was reportedly disappointed that anyone would believe he would beg someone, especially in a case involving a book he published and which had been widely circulated.
Temokun reassured the public that Farotimi is in good spirits, remaining optimistic despite the serious charges. Farotimi is determined to fight the allegations in court and is confident that he will prevail.
The legal battle continues, and many are watching closely to see how the case will unfold in the coming months. Farotimi’s firm stance on his principles and the case indicates he has no intention of backing down.
