The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has called on contractors to prioritize hiring local workers for infrastructure projects. During the inauguration of a 15-kilometer road project connecting the Abuja-Lokoja Expressway (A2) to Pai in Kwali Area Council, Wike instructed the contractor to employ at least 100 local workers.
Wike emphasized that such employment opportunities are vital for families, as they provide a way for locals to earn a living and support their households. He highlighted that using local labor ensures that development projects benefit the community directly.
The road project, awarded to Zeberced Group, is set to be completed within six months. Wike also stressed the importance of meeting deadlines while ensuring the community sees tangible benefits from the work.
This move reflects a broader commitment to community development, showing how infrastructure projects can create jobs and drive economic growth at the grassroots level.
