In a shocking incident, Adeyinka Adeleke, a councilorship candidate for the All Progressives Congress in Abeokuta South, Ogun State, was shot and killed by gunmen on Saturday afternoon. This tragic event occurred in the Jide Jones area, just weeks before the local government elections scheduled for November 16.
Witnesses reported that the attackers arrived in a tinted car and began firing shots in the area. They specifically targeted Adeleke, shooting him multiple times and leaving him bleeding on the ground. A video circulating online showed his lifeless body, with nearby residents expressing their shock and sorrow.
The source said, “Some gunmen killed the All Progressives Congress councilorship candidate for Ibara Ward 15, Adeyinka Adeleke, today.
“The gunmen came in a tinted car, shot him, and hit him with stones till he died. There was tension in the area as people were scampering for safety.”
Sources revealed that the attackers acted swiftly; one of them shot Adeleke at close range and then struck him to ensure he was dead. This brutal act created fear among the local community, with many residents fleeing the scene for safety.
Adeleke was known as a former transport union worker in the Panseke area of Abeokuta. A police officer confirmed the incident, mentioning that the family had taken the body away. As of now, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, has not responded to inquiries about the attack.
“The Killing happened around 2 pm, it took everybody by surprise… No one knows if it is a cultist attack or not. The people in the area are already locking their shops, everywhere is tensed up now, it is so sad,” the source said.
