Mother Warns School Before Apalachee High School Shooting

In a heartbreaking incident at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, 14-year-old Colt Gray is accused of committing a mass shooting that left four people dead. Colt’s mother, Marcee Gray, had warned the school just before the tragic event unfolded, making the situation even more devastating.

According to reports from family members, Colt sent his mother a text early that morning apologizing. The alarming message prompted Marcee to contact the school to alert them of an emergency involving her son. Despite her efforts, the shooting occurred shortly after, and Colt is now facing charges of four counts of murder.

Marcee Gray’s father, Charles Polhamus, revealed that Colt texted his mother while she was staying with him, saying, “I’m sorry, mom.” The teenager has since been arrested and is set to be tried as an adult.

After the incident, Marcee expressed deep sorrow and regret, apologizing to the victims’ families. In a message to the Washington Post, she said, “I am so, so sorry and cannot imagine the pain they are going through.”

Her sister, Annie Brown, confirmed that Marcee had made a 10-minute phone call to the school at around 9:50 a.m., before the shooting occurred. The police were notified of the shooting at around 10:20 a.m., according to reports.

While Marcee Gray confirmed she had warned the school, she did not go into details about what was said. She shared that the information had been provided to law enforcement. Her sister, Annie, mentioned that because they share a phone plan, she was able to view the call logs.

The school district and law enforcement agencies have not commented publicly on the details of Marcee’s call, although the Georgia Bureau of Investigation redirected questions to the local District Attorney’s office.

Tragically, Colt Gray is accused of shooting two teachers and two students, injuring nine others during the rampage. He was arrested within minutes of the attack. Additionally, Colt’s father, Colin Gray, has been arrested on charges of second-degree murder, involuntary manslaughter, and child cruelty, as he was reportedly the one who purchased the AR-15 style gun Colt used.

This incident has left the Apalachee High School community in mourning and has sparked further discussion on the responsibility of parents, gun control, and mental health support in preventing such tragedies.
