United States music icon Lionel Richie has been hospitalised in St Louis, Missouri, after reportedly falling ill following his concert at The Muny in Forest Park on Saturday night.

The 77-year-old singer was said to have sought medical attention after the performance as a precaution and was reportedly admitted to the intensive care unit while doctors carried out medical tests.

According to TMZ, Richie remained hospitalised as of Monday afternoon and is expected to be discharged on Tuesday. Sources said the singer sought treatment out of an abundance of caution, with dehydration reportedly being considered as a possible cause of his condition.

Concern had grown among concertgoers after Richie appeared to struggle towards the end of his performance in St Louis. During his final song, his iconic hit “All Night Long,” the singer reportedly asked for a chair and continued the performance while seated.

The latest health scare comes barely two months after Richie fell ill during a concert in St Paul, Minnesota.

Richie was performing at the Grand Casino Arena in June as part of his joint “Sing A Song All Night Long” tour with Earth, Wind & Fire when he was forced to stop the show during a performance of “Three Times a Lady.”

His band subsequently left the stage, and more than 40 minutes later, saxophonist Dino Soldo returned to announce that the legendary singer would be unable to continue the concert.

“Unfortunately, Lionel is not feeling well,” Soldo reportedly told the audience, adding that further information would be made available.

Fans at the Minnesota concert had also expressed concern over Richie’s condition, with some saying the singer appeared unwell during the performance.

Videos from the show reportedly showed Richie sitting down several times while performing “Dancing on the Ceiling,” while he was also said to have told the audience that he was feeling dizzy.

Richie’s latest hospitalisation has once again raised concerns among fans over the health of the veteran entertainer.
