Philadelphia Police are investigating an armed robbery involving a Brinks armored truck that occurred Tuesday morning, April 21, resulting in the theft of up to $1.8 million in cash.
Officers responded at approximately 9:45 a.m. to the 7200 block of Torresdale Avenue following reports of a robbery in progress, according to authorities and CBS News.
Preliminary information indicates that a vehicle pulled into a parking lot where the armored truck had stopped at a check-cashing business.
Two masked individuals, reportedly armed with assault-style rifles, exited the vehicle and carried out the robbery.
Surveillance footage from a nearby camera shows two suspects dressed in black and wearing masks fleeing from a blue vehicle, with one appearing to point a rifle.
A police spokesperson confirmed that an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency was taken, while law enforcement sources estimate the total could be as much as $1.8 million. No injuries were reported.
Investigators later recovered a vehicle believed to have been used in the incident—an Acura—located beneath Interstate 95 near Front Street and Fairmount Avenue.
The suspects remain at large, and the investigation is ongoing.
