Tension turned deadly in parts of Nasarawa State on Friday as violence broke out between two communities, leaving at least 11 people dead and dozens of homes destroyed. The incident affected Akyawa and Udege Kasa, where residents were caught in the chaos.
Reports indicate that about 50 houses were burnt in Akyawa, while two houses were destroyed in Udege Kasa. Many families have been displaced and are now struggling to cope with the aftermath of the attack.
According to the state police command, the situation began as a clash between the communities following disagreements. However, some locals claim the violence may have been carried out by suspected bandits who invaded the area.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, confirmed the deaths and stated that the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Mohammed, visited the affected communities. He expressed sadness over the loss of lives and assured residents that security agencies are taking action.
Authorities say security has now been reinforced in the area, with police working alongside the military and civil defence corps to maintain peace. Residents have been urged to stay calm and share any useful information that could help arrest those responsible
