Slot urges Liverpool to stick together after FA Cup rout at Man City

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has asked his players to stay united after a painful 4-0 defeat to Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-finals. The match, played at Etihad Stadium, showed the struggles Liverpool have faced this season. Despite starting well and creating chances early on, the team lost control before halftime.

Erling Haaland was the star of the game, scoring three goals, while Antoine Semenyo added another. Liverpool’s problems worsened when Mohamed Salah missed a penalty with the score already at 4-0. Slot admitted that the team’s defending and overall performance were not good enough, especially after conceding twice just before halftime.

Slot described the loss as very disappointing but said his focus quickly shifted to their next big challenge — a Champions League clash against Paris Saint-Germain. He explained that while the defeat was bad, it could have been worse, and avoiding more goals was important for the team’s confidence going into the next match.

Liverpool’s season has been difficult, with only two wins in their last seven games and their position in the league putting Champions League qualification at risk. Fans are becoming frustrated, and there is growing pressure on Slot, although he remains focused on improving the team and encouraging players to step up when it matters most.

Meanwhile, Manchester City continue their strong run, reaching the FA Cup semi-finals for the eighth year in a row. Assistant coach Pep Lijnders said the team improved after a slow start and praised Haaland’s performance. With momentum on their side, City are now aiming to win more trophies this season.
